The Assyrian Alphabets

The letter Alâp has no pronunciation of its own. It is silent. It looks to the vowel below it, next to it, or over it and verbalize the vowel sound instead. It has only the sound of the vowel which it receives. It is used chiefly as a peg to hang a vowel on, or as a quiescent final letter. |

The letter Béth is pronounced as the letter B, as in Boy or Bee. |

The letter Gamâl is pronounced as the letter G. makes a “G” sound as in Girl or Geese. |
